Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The pricing for the basic and puppy courses is very straight forward, the price per session for behavior modification students is determined prior to the first session and will remain consistent throughout our training. The behavior modification students price is determined by the level of risk that our trainer is at when handling the reactive dog, but the session will cost a minimum of $90. There are absolutely no refunds for any course. If you are unable to attend a session we will happily reschedule you. If you are interested in meeting on a consistent basis you can always buy a bundle of 10 sessions at once which will help save you money. Check out our website for more details.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We will first identify the problem and what exactly you're looking for your dog to accomplish. Once the problem is identified and we've created a game plan for how to solve it then we make sure you have a clear line of communication to your dog and show you how to apply these new cues and skills in real life situations.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
First Aid & CPR certified CPDT-KA ABC-KA CPDT-KA Various other certificates of completion for courses regarding animal care and training such as Puppy Massage and Canine Health and Nutrition. Almost 5 years of training dogs and specializing in Behavior Modification.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Volunteering at the humane society and working in dog kennels before/while going to school for training and behavior.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with basic obedience cases and behavior modification primarily but have also done things like agility and therapy dog training.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Franki the GSD had a lot of fear based reactivity. She would lunge and bark on the other end of her leash at both dogs and humans. This dog was essentially lacking a clear line of communication between her and her handler, lacked any kind of obedience and skills and was not held accountable for her actions. After teaching Franki all her basic cues including leash skills, leave it and improving her relationship and communication with her handler, Frankis parents are now able to take her on walks in the neighborhood and park and to pet friendly stores without concern.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
No matter who you go to for training always look for experience, education and passion in your trainer. Training is about replacing behaviors not just eliminating. If your trainer seems to forget that and just focuses on eliminating behaviors without teaching the dog an alternative, you'll be wasting your time.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Think about your dog and their preferences, boundaries and where they're at in their training already. If you have a dog who is very skiddish or reactive around new people, maybe a large facility with lots of people and dogs isn't the right learning environment for them and private sessions might suite them better. If you have a dog who's doing great at home and out and about in public and you're looking to improve their skills around others in a controlled space maybe finding a trainer who offers group classes would be beneficial. Consider all the aspects of your dog and how they learn to pick the best environment for them to learn in. Dogs should never be in a state of panic or fear when attempting to train since their fear makes them not receptive to anything you're trying to teach them.
